John Bunyan's Definition of Prayer

John Bunyan's book, Prayer, published by The Banner of Truth Trust, is a compilation of two of Bunyan's works on the subect: A Discourse Touching Prayer (1662) and The Throne of Grace (published posthumously by Charles Doe in 1692). The book begins with Bunyan's definition of prayer:

"Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate, pouring out of the heart or soul to God, through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit, for such things as God has promised, or according to His Word, for the good of the church, with submission of faith to the will of God."
